New York MetropolisThird baseman Brett Baty gave up No. 22 to Juan Soto, and his new teammates rewarded him for it.
Soto, who just signed the largest contract in professional sports history, expressed his gratitude for giving up the 22nd on Thursday.
“I really appreciate the number. This is the first one I’ve worn. I want to give you something good.” Soto says.

“Okay, that’s definitely really good,” Barty replied.
Soto gave him an SUV and left a bow on the hood, giving him his gift to Barty. During the exchange, the outfielder was in the exchange Mets color number 22.
“Brother, this is crazy,” Buddy said after he first arrived at the driver’s seat.

The Mets retained first baseman Pete Alonso and first baseman in free agents, giving Soto some important protection in the roster.
Unfortunately for Baty, Alonso’s re-signature could damage his chances of making Open Day register.
If Alonso leaves, third baseman Mark Vientos could have taken over at first base, while third base opens for Baty.

With Alonso’s return, Viothos was in a stumbling spot at third base after a strong second half and a playoff run as he played 27 home runs in 111 regular season games last season.
Buddy played 50 games last season and struggled to hit .229 on four home runs.
Whether Buddy gets the Opening Day lineup or not, he will at least step out of spring training with a brand new car.
