During the peak commute on Tuesday, a subway train derailed in downtown Los Angeles.
The derailed train was at the Seventh Street/Metro Center station, but the train remained upright and was not injured. According to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Bureau, the train problem occurred before 3:30 p.m.
There is a significant delay on Line A, which connects Long Beach to Azusa, and Line E that connects Santa Monica to East Los Angeles.
Light rail service is stopped at 7th Street/Metro Center Station, and the service is also likely to be disrupted – depending on the train line – at the Avenue Arts/Bunch Hill Station, the historic Broadway Station and the Little Tokyo/Art Regional Station.
As a result, Line A runs only between Long Beach and Pico Station and then from Union Station to Azusa.
Likewise, Line E only operates between Santa Monica and Pico Stations and between the historic Broadway Station and East Los Angeles.
There is no estimate of when the disabled train will be removed. Metro said on social media: “We need to move the event train from approaching the seventh / Metro will service to resume service.”
To bypass the derailed train, a possible alternative is to take the B or D subway. Another option is to ride the J Line Express Bus.
The shuttle bus also operates at the historic Broadway Station and the Grand/Los Angeles Institute of Trade and Technology Station.
