Meta’s oversight committee, an independent group created by the company’s independent group to help sensitive policy decisions, is preparing to weigh the recent changes to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to deal with hate speech, Report says Engadget.
Zuckerberg announces Overhaul its content review policy In January, shortly before U.S. President Donald Trump took office, as part of an effort to allow “more speeches” on his platform. This work includes protecting meta-review of hate speech rules for immigrants and LGBTQ users on its app.
According to Engadget, Meta’s oversight committee has four public cases of hate speech, and the board plans to use these cases to review the company’s new policies.
Meta also has a lot of track record to get advice from the Oversight Committee. Meta must follow the board’s decision on individual positions, but the group has limited impact on general policies.
