Memphis for The arrival of the National Guard Following the announcement by Donald Trump on Friday morning to Fox & Friends, a downtown restaurant focused on what it has been doing – providing ribs for hungry locals and visitors.
Charlie Vergos’s Reunion – Legendary BBQ ribs Since 1948, hidden in the alleys of the city – still a symbol of stability in the city, suddenly suddenly entered the national focus.
John Vergos, the restaurant’s co-owner and son of the late founder, told Fox News Digital that Memphis “no better than any other city, nothing worse.”

He added: “I’m not saying we have no problems, but I don’t know which city doesn’t.”
Vergos acknowledged that while the headlines may have painted grim pictures of Memphis, the only thing that smokes in the set music is the barbecue pit.

“We probably have half of the tourists and half of the locals, and our business has declined,” Vergos said. “And I don’t know if that reflects a bit of a collapse in the restaurant business across the country. I think Memphis’ tourism industry has declined, but again, we’ve been beaten in the media.”

She noted that the city’s culinary identity proved that Memphis was much more complicated than headlines.
“Memphis has an amazing, almost underrated Food scene,” Blair told Fox News Numbers. “Memphis is known for its barbecue, which is great for us, but the barbecue range in Memphis is more than just barbecue.”

BBQ may be the headlines, but Vergos says the city’s culinary scene is deep, affectionate and unique to Memphis.
“Memphis is a Great food town.” He said. “This is not a city. It has a lot of family businesses.”

Vergos, who served as a city council member from 1996 to 2004, said he was not unsafe to Memphis and claimed there was “never” a single violence in or around the restaurant.
But statistics provided by the White House show that Memphis had the highest violent crime rate and the third highest murder rate in the United States last year. According to the White House, there have been 149 homicides in the city so far this year.
Tennessee Governor Bill Bill Lee wrote on X: “I thank the President for his unwavering support and commitment to all the resources needed to provide services to Memphis, and I look forward to working with local officials and law enforcement to continue to achieve results.”
“As one of the world-class cities in the United States, Memphis is still on the road to greatness and we won’t let anything stop them.”
Vergos said Memphis was a “resilent city” that overcomes turbulent moments in American history, the 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
The owner said barbecues and parties – played a role in helping to divert public perceptions of the city.

“I think my grandfather named it Rendezvous [because] It means “a gathering place,” Blair said, “I think the food is done a lot. I think restaurants do a lot of things and they continue to do it every day in Memphis. ”
The goal is to make people happy, to let people enjoy food, to enjoy companionship, to leave home and stay overnight, she said. ”

Vergos said tourists come to the city. His restaurant “It should feel safe,” but he admits that negative headlines about Memphis may make customers “somewilled”.
“If they are determined to send the National Guard down, I hope it will be done constructively, I hope it has been done [in coordination] With local and state officials. ”
