It is unclear how Melania’s initiative will follow her goal of protecting children from AI or the technology that has been created for their workforce. But, my industry sources told me that in addition to the billion-dollar investor figures they have already promised, the involvement of the First Lady is expected to lead to “a huge commitment from these companies.”
The First Lady just started her new host role in the Trump World AI band, which has been touring since the start of the new administration.
David Sacks is operating the Office of Science and Technology Policy as a government-appointed AI consultant and Crypto Czar, Thiel Capital Alum Michael Kratsios. There have been a series of executive orders regarding the enforcement of federal AI policy, from guiding agencies to deregulation of regulations to more ambiguous behaviors such as preventing “Woke AI” from occupying the federal government. There is also the government’s AI Action Plan, which outlines policy actions under three pillars: accelerate innovation by eliminating regulatory barriers, establishing AI advantages with data centers and semiconductor manufacturing, and promoting AI standards globally to reduce dependence on foreign technologies (Chinese) technologies.
Melania’s seat on the table
The White House has no list of questions to answer about the first lady’s AI education program, what she sees in technology beyond deep development, and whether the U.S. should prioritize support for more environmentally friendly infrastructure. Beckman also did not return a request for comment.
A source at the AI dinner in the room said that even though she didn’t blend too much, the first lady seemed to relax with the tech executives. In particular, the source noted that Melania seemed to listen to another important Gerelyn Gilbert-Soto of Google Cofounder Sergey Brin, who also attended the meeting.
“What I can say is Melania, [Gilbert-Soto] In speaking,” the source in my room told me, adding that the first lady was “smiling, more involved than other tech CEOs spoke, praising Trump.” Gilbert-Soto did not return a request for comment sent to Google’s representative.
For the AI industry, the only business of the First Lady’s reentered public life is to support their products, and this is welcome news.
In that room, “some of the world’s most powerful businessmen account for the upper limit of technology and innovation for public markets,” Trump World’s AI industry sources said.
“And, you have the first lady sit in a room next to the president and say, ‘I want to insert myself and get involved.’ “And she really isn’t involved a lot…so now letting her go out and insert herself, I think that’s pretty important.”
