Mechabellum gets a second chance as Dreamhaven relaunches the mech autobattler

Dreamhaven Announces a partnership with Development Studio Game River to publish the competitive automotive fighter Mechabellum.

The sci-fi Mech game has realistic graphics where you place an order to the troops and they execute your commands in an automatic fighter. It looks like a real-time strategy game, but you can stop and think after each turn, Dreamhaven CEO Mike Morhaime said in an interview with GamesBeat.

In honor of the partnership, Dreamhaven and Game River today launched the Mechabellum Premium Edition, which offers commanders more than 18 exclusive skins, unique avatars and special emojis. As it happens, Game River’s title is an undiscovered gem, Dreamhaven gives a second chance. The trailer looks great, but I’m interested in the strategy.

You can buy Mechabellum Standard Edition or Mechabellum Premium for $15 now
The steam version is $30. New players can view Mechabellum in the weekend free matches from April 4 to April 8, 2025.

The news was revealed during the Dreamhaven showcase at the Game Awards ceremony.

Second chance

You don’t have to fight in real time at Mechabellum. You can think of it.

Mike Morhaime said Mechabellum is a turn-by-turn game based on a single multiplayer game. Players will choose how to spend resources and place their units on the battlefield. Once you do this, you can see the outcome of the battle. Then, a new battle begins, and the players strike a balance again in a turn-based battle.

“A lot of people are in love with this game because it captures all the strategic depth of the real-time strategy we like without the action per minute (APM) requirement.”

This means you don’t need to be a clever juggler to play the game in real time.

Dreamhaven co-founder Amy Morhaime said the team entered the game early after StarCraft community members approached them. It only has one comment, but 90 out of 100 points. The creator of Mechabellum, China’s Game River, fell into a publishing agreement again, but later stood out, Dreamhaven agreed to re-release the game with a more exaggerated backstage.

“We like to watch professionals play these RTS games because we never really see the strategic aspects of these games because we’ve been fighting the micro, tactical aspects of the game,” Mike Morhaime said.

It’s designed for everyone, but older players like me may have a chance because fighting isn’t how many units you can control immediately.

More details

Dreamhaven is re-releasing the undiscovered Mechabellum of Game River.

Inspired by the classic real-time strategy game, Mechabellum mission players direct a mechanic army to defeat thousands of real players around the world. Choose from a wide variety of combat-ready mechas equipped with unique features and tactical advantages. Customize units, position them strategically, and work to predict or oppose opponents’ actions. Success depends on being smart or surpassing the opposition.

“With Dreamhaven’s support, we focus on refining the content roadmap for Mechabellum in 2025 and beyond. Our commanders can look forward to adding new units, entrepreneurial experts, technology upgrades and more in the coming months,” Wen Youge said in a statement. “We look forward to a bright future of working with Dreamhaven.”

“Game River has created one of the most tactical, strategically profound automotive chariots on the market with Mechabellum,” Mike Morhaime said. “I am a proud, avid player. It’s one of the best games developed in the past decade and we believe people will play even in ten years.”

Mechanical functions

You can build the perfect army in Mechabellum.

Convene a chaos by summoning a group of creeper robots in the middle of an enemy army, turning a defeated battle into victory. Stay at unit seminars between matches to perfect the burden on the army, access new technologies and develop advanced tactics.
● Powerful game tools and replay system: Control past battles to check precise moments and explore alternative strategies. Players can hone their skills through the tournament ladder and learn about the competition using an innovative replay system.
