Massive WWII bomb forces overnight evacuation of 6,000 residents from homes

Thousands of people are forced to evacuate a prosperous community Hongkong Overnight, experts sweated at a delicate work rate, cutting the remaining nearly five feet of World War II, 1,000-pound bombs.

A U.S.-made bomb was found on a construction site in Quarry Bay on the west side of Hong Kong on Friday, not from The The Bomk war Discovered on the island.

“We have confirmed that the pair is a bomb that dates back to World War II,” police official Andy Chan Tin-Chu told reporters. He said that about 1,900 families involving 6,000 people “urged to evacuate quickly” due to “extremely high risks associated with their disposal.”

The 1,000-pound bomb has 500-pound TNT, which is likely to be abandoned by U.S. service personnel during the war, and bomb experts must go from about 2 a.m. Saturday to almost noon, Hong Kong police said in a statement.

Police said the disposal legal team “courageously[ed] Typhoon “dismantling bombs” elements to neutralize threats by 11:48 am

No one was injured.

“Given the high risks involved in the handling of the bomb that officers from our #ExplosiveOrdnanceDisposal (#EOD) Bureau believes to still be in good condition—#HKPF designed the emergency evacuation plan upon the discovery of the bomb by workers in a construction site at No. 16-94 of fPan Hoi Street—for the sake of ensuring #PublicSafety,” the Hong Kong Police Force said in an alert on X.

In 2018experts found another World War II bomb on a construction site in the Hong Kong business district. It also weighs 1,000 pounds, the third bomb to be dug since January of that year.
