Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) shocked NBC “With the Press” host Kristen Welker on Sunday, announcing whether he intends to run for president in the 2028 election.
Guessing it has rotated Moore will run for presidentThe governor of Maryland will be re-elected in 2026. When asked if Moore intends to be re-elected, if re-elected, he said yes. Moore ruled out the presidential race in the next election when Welker urged him not to run for president.
“Yes, I want my term to be complete. I’m excited for re-election. I’m excited about the ability of the people of Maryland.”

“Do you rule out the presidential governor’s campaign?” Welk fired back.
“Yes, I’m not running for president,” Moore replied.
“You exclude it? Yes. Did you exclude it completely?” Welk asked.
Moore went on to list his achievements as governor and said he was looking forward to continuing to lead Maryland.

“I’m so excited about my job that we’ve gone from No. 43 in the country to one of the lowest unemployment. In violent crime anywhere in the United States, our population is growing. Our population is growing. Maryland is growing, so I’m so excited about the figure of my state people and demanding other tenures,” Moore said.
Maryland’s unemployment rate was 3.4% as of July 2025, slightly higher than last month, but ranked 14th out of all 50 states. According to police data, Baltimore saw 201 homicides in 2024. Its homicide rate represents a decade-long low. However, the rate of violent crime in Maryland is 17.1% higher than the national average.
Moore is just One of several names Other Democrats who are supposed to be potential candidates are running for Democratic nominations in 2028, including Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, California Gov. Gavin Newsom Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. New York’s “squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is also believed to be considering the president.

recent Emerson Poll Found Newsom leads this lead, with 25% of respondents saying they will support him in the 2028 primary, Pete Buttigieg received 16% support and Harris received only 11%. However, 23% of respondents said they were unsure. Moore was not included in the poll.
