In another message, Zuck called Instagram’s growth “really horrifying”, saying, “We might want to consider paying a lot of money for it.” Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion in 2012 and spent $19 billion on WhatsApp two years later.
Z offers an alternative in an email to Facebook chief Tom Alison:
“Option 1. Reach friends. One possible crazy idea is to consider wiping everyone’s charts and letting them start over.”
Alison replied: “I’m not sure if option #1 in your proposal is feasible considering the importance of my friend’s use case to IG.”
