A 25-year-old man pleaded guilty on Friday to murder and multiple murders, rushing to a rampage, stabbing a man, then hitting a car at a bus stop near Westlake High School, killing a 15 a year old and hurt five other students.
The late teenager, the family of Wesley Welling, and some survivors on April 18, 2023, attacked to look at Austin Eis, with little emotion, special circumstances for pre-murder and many other charges feel guilty of premeditated murder. EIS agreed to be sentenced to 85 years in life imprisonment next month through an entry request.
However, since he is considered a young criminal, EIS will be eligible for a parole hearing after 24 years in prison.
Lee, a senior deputy attorney, said Ventura County prosecutor agreed to the confession because it avoided trauma from survivors having to testify against the deadly attack.
EIS pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in a special case in Welling’s death, attempted murder, deadly weapon attacks and false incarceration for violence. He also pleaded guilty to special charges, including personal use of cars and knives as deadly weapons, and caused serious bodily harm.
“The defendant committed terror and extreme violence that caused the life of a teenage boy to destroy many other boys,” said Ventura County District. Erik Nasarenko. “While no guilty plea would bind the suffering of the victim and their families, they would ensure that the defendant evacuates the society and levy liability for his terrible crimes.”
Prosecutors said EIS went to three locations, heading to three locations, leaving behind bloodshed and confusion during the pre-planned violent rampage.
Prosecutors said EIS attacked a greeter several times by spitting, spraying and stabbing him, after entering Walmart in the Simi Valley. EIS then physically attacked the second employee and tried to drag her away. Prosecutors said EIS rushed towards them with a knife before running from the store when other employees tried to intervene.
Prosecutors said about 40 minutes later, EIS broke into the home of his family in Camarillo, threatened multiple people with a knife and waved a replica gun to demand to escape using other weapons.
EIS then intentionally drove for about 20 minutes to Westlake High School in Thousand Oaks, as the student left school, dragged his car to students near the bus stop on the sidewalk, killing Weiling and injuring several others .
Witnesses reported that EIS accelerated 15 students before hitting with his vehicle, hitting the bus stop after the impact. Several students were seriously injured and required surgery and extensive medical treatment. Some of the students, along with friends of Wheelin, participated in the EIS court lawsuit in Ventura Court, wearing T-shirts with “Wesley Justice” on it, with his pictures on the front.
Prosecutors said EIS acknowledged targeting students with personal frustration and his desire to commit mass violence. Investigators have discovered a long history of threats to violence, including admiration for mass murderers and compliance with extremist ideology. Prosecutors said text messages and communications showed that he said he intended to commit years of violence.
