On Friday, the Los Angeles Police Department hangs beside the swimming pool after an armed suspect aimed a shotgun at a police helicopter.

LAPD was dispatched to a house in the 20,000 block of Tipico Street at 2:20 p.m. after a call with a fatal weapon suspect.

When police arrived, the suspect pointed a shotgun over the head of the LAPD helicopter and lay down by a swimming pool in the backyard of the house, a spokesman said. He added that it is not clear whether the shots were fired at the helicopter.

A spokesman said nearby residents were evacuated and police continued to surround the house as of 4:30 p.m. He said a SWAT team is also responding to the incident.
