Police revealed Tuesday that a congressional staff member was arrested on suspicion of carrying a pistol that was escorted by members of Congress to the U.S. Capitol.
“Yesterday afternoon, members of Congress led an ID’ED staffer around the safety screening in the Hart Senate office building,” the U.S. Capitol police said in a statement.
“Later that night, outside the Senate Gallery, the ID staff (retired law enforcement officer) told our officer that he was armed.”

Batts is listed as a “special assistant” to Sen. Cory Booker, DN.J., a research entity that typically updates salaries and information about legislators and their employees.
Booker’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
