The Maine Legislature voted on its biennial budget Thursday night, but the delay of the meeting was delayed by a long debate on inclusion of trans athletes and condemnation of Republican representatives. Laurel Libby.
Libby is condemned by Maine’s Democratic Majority and Spokesperson Ryan Fecteau For social media posts identifying minors across athletes, several amendments to the state budget were proposed through loopholes in state legislative policy.
Liby submitted the 10-tier amendment to the budget by the deadline, which is not condemned. Libby was therefore allowed to speak at the meeting on Thursday and introduce the amendments. One of these amendments has nothing to do with the budget, but rather a proposal to disengage trans athletes from the girls’ sports.

But when Libby did propose an amendment, several Democrats protested, sparking debate with Republican representatives.
“During that four-minute speech, Republicans and Democrats had a debate on my condemnation. So, the condemnation was basically a second vote, reaffirming the Democrats’ commitment to my voice and my vote,” Libby said.

In addition to Libby’s proposal to ban trans athletes from participating in women’s sports, she has proposed several budget bills that would reduce taxes and government spending. These recommendations include the abolition of taxes on solar energy, the abolition of the Free Community College and the abolition of the most recent 1% payroll tax.
However, Liby’s amendment did not even take into account that Democrats adopted an amendment that was postponed indefinitely.

“I can’t talk to them, defend them, and bring them the benefits they bring to the people of Maine,” Libby said.
Ultimately, the adopted budget does not include any Republican opinions. The Maine Building approved a $11.3 billion spending plan with a 74-67 vote. The Senate passed opposition between two Democrats and Republicans 18-17.
Libby was condemned on February 25 for her social media posts identifying minors under the name of the photo. Libby’s post noted that a trans track and field athlete ranked first in the Maine women’s pole vault after a boy race a year ago.

“It’s an amazing double standard because there are public photos in many places, on social media, and even in some places posted by his school. Libby represents more than 9,000 ingredients in the 90 Maine District, six of which have signed lawsuits because the condemnation prevented her from taking other legislative actions to serve them.
