A conservative legal group is challenging the president Donald TrumpTariffs on China called them “illegal attempts” to impose higher taxes on Chinese imports.
The new Civil Liberties Union (NCLA) filed its initial complaint Thursday in the Florida District Court, challenging Trump’s “illegal use of emergency powers to impose tariffs on all imports from China.”

Trump released Executive Order On February 1, the title was “Responsible for the Implementation of the Integrated Opioid Supply Chain of the People’s Republic of China” and was revised on March 3 to increase tariffs on Chinese imports from 10% to 20%.
Plaintiff Emily Ley, the owner of Simplified, a company based in Pensacola, Florida, argues that Trump’s invocation of the International Emergency Economic Forces Act (IEPEA) is illegal. The plaintiff also argued that her business would be hurt due to Trump’s actions.
“The key to all of this is that Ieepa is not offering tariff debt, you know, because when Congress does that, they use the word, they say how the president should do it.”
Vecchione noted that the complaint described various regulations that Trump used tariffs during his first term, saying that in this case he “used the wrong regulations.”

The plaintiff argued that the law allowed the president to “order sanctions as a quick response to an international emergency” but did not authorize him to “impose tariffs on the American people.”
“So, President Trump’s executive order to impose Chinese tariffs is super drug and unconstitutional,” the complaint said.
The group believes that if the president is granted such power, he will have “almost unlimited authorization bodies” The power of Congress Excess tariffs. ”
The complaint continued: “He will have the right to declare a national emergency on some long-running national issues and then impose tariffs in the name of an emergency – thus avoiding detailed restrictions on the tariff mandate it has granted.”

In response to the lawsuit, White House President Press Secretary Harrison Fields defended the execution order, telling Fox News numbers: “President Trump has broad powers to impose tariffs to address national emergencies, such as the opioid pandemic. The lawsuit comes just a few days after the president released his tariff plan in his speech White House Rose Garden is in the highly anticipated “Make America Rich Again” event.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the new tariffs are scheduled to take effect on April 10.
“China made a mistake, they were panicked – one thing they couldn’t afford,” Trump wrote on Friday.
