First on Fox: Fox News Digital learned that a group of bipartisan members from the House Homeland Security Committee are visiting the Zero Ground in New York City to mark Thursday’s 9/11th anniversary.
New York remains the crosshair for terrorism, and members from terrorism House Homeland Security Committee Alert voices on potential threats the United States continues to face – especially as the United States prepares to host upcoming large-scale events such as next year’s FIFA World Cup.
Rep. Andrew Garbarino, the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, will lead a group of members of the committee visiting Zero Ground on Thursday, according to a committee aides. Before thanking first responders, councillors also planned to put flowers in the memorial hall and participated in a September 11 memorial with the museum staff tour on Thursday night.

“Twenty-four years later, it is crucial to remember [the Department of Homeland Security] “After one of the darkest days in our nation’s history, the Homeland Security Commission was established. It is a call for action to guide my work every day and it will continue to steering the Commission’s work.”
“More than two decades later, our country is still facing threats and development from foreign terrorist organizations and local violent extremists, and New York remains the biggest target of terrorism,” Gabarino said.
The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Research and Technology, the National Institute of Justice, determined in 2023 that New York City has the largest number of attempts or actual terrorist incidents in the country.
Members of the committee were the first to try to address these ongoing terrorist threats. For example, R-Texas Rep. August Pfluger reintroduced legislation in February, called the Anti-Online Radical and Terrorism Act, which would require the DHS to evaluate the threats imposed by ISIS and HAMAS against terrorist groups in the United States by using foreign foreign cloud-based mobile or desktop messages.

Other members of the committee are expected to attend Zero Ground Visit Zero, the committee’s top Democrat, Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, and representatives. Commissioner Pablo José Hernández.
Members of the bipartisan committee will also visit the Metropolitan Life Stadium in New Jersey, where the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held. Members of the White House FIFA World Cup contingent, including Andrew Giuliani, son of White House Mayor Rudy Giuliani, will also join lawmakers to check the safety preparations for the event, according to committee aides. Andrew Giuliani leads the White House task force.
President Donald Trump will speak at the annual compliance ceremony on September 11, 2001. He will also attend a private memorial led by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine, chairman of the United Emirates, to honor 184 victims.

The Department of Homeland Security is coordinating to secure World Cup matches, as well as other upcoming events, such as 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympicsand the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. Meanwhile, the House Homeland Security Committee’s Special Events Committee Task Force is monitoring these security efforts.
“This important meeting will help inform the committee of ongoing efforts to ensure that the Department of Homeland Security can ensure Americans and visitors at international events to be held on U.S. soil, including the 2028 Olympics,” Garbarino said. “The United States will never be caught off guard again.”
