Investigators from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office found that the death toll in the Eaton fire rose to 18 Wednesday.
A response team for six-person special operations responded to the 900 block of Boston Street on Wednesday to investigate potential human remains, the Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement. After the investigation, the team confirmed that the body was human.
New deaths brought the total death toll from the fire in January to 30. At least 18 people died in the Eaton Fire in Altadena, and at least 12 people died in the Palisades fire in the Pacific Palisades.
The victim recently discovered was found on the corner of Boston Street and Lake Avenue in Altadena, which appeared to be the first death of the Eaton fire east of Lake Avenue.
