Los Angeles County sued Southern California’s Edison’s role in the devastating Eaton fire on Wednesday.
The lawsuit is the latest claim that Edison’s equipment caused a fire that destroyed about 9,000 homes and killed 17 people. Residents have Filed More than 40 lawsuits against the utility focused on the discovery of the first flame gearbox tower.
“All the evidence points to them,” said Scott Kuhn, a county attorney who led the lawsuit.
Kuhn said the county is seeking to recover “at least hundreds of millions of dollars”, and officials said they will spend helping Altadena recover from the fire.
“We regard this lawsuit as part of the reconstruction of the Altadena community,” he said.
The cities of Pasadena and Sierra Madre are also planning to sue Edison, according to a county press release.
