Ex-father LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy broke the silence on Sunday about his son’s death as authorities revealed details about what happened before his suicide death.

Kenny Lacy wrote a message to his parents on Facebook just hours after his son died in the Houston area.

“Young parents, start talking to your children at a very young age and make sure they have confidence and freedom in you,” he wrote on the social media platform. “Don’t be ‘I’m fine or I’m fine’ when you know that things aren’t right in the depths. Mental health is real, and in most cases it’s invisible, and don’t ignore these signs, even if they look small.

“Our lives have changed forever, and it will never be OK, but God needs my baby more than it needs here. It has to be the biggest pill our family must swallow, but I know the love and compassion in our family will get us through it. It will always be easier, but we will learn to live with it.”

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says Fox 26 Houston. Officials learned that Lace had fled the scene and searched him.

The sheriff’s office said responding deputies removed lace from the vehicle and detained him, but were found to have been found with “self-firing gunshot wounds” and pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident was investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives and crime scenes,” a statement said through Fox 26 Houston. “Preliminary information shows that lace fired during the pursuit, before the vehicle crashed. Louisiana State Police said he fled the scene of the crash. Lacy was awarded a warrant for negligent homicide, felony crashes and reckless vehicles.

The grand jury will hear evidence from the case on Monday, according to reports.
