Karen Read’s off-site statement, including on popular true crime TV shows, will play a key role in her second murder trial in order to die in the death of her Boston police boyfriend, John O’Keefe, according to new court documents.
Read is accused of supporting her Lexus SUV to O’Keefe after midnight on January 29, 2022 and then leaving him dead on the ground as he swept through New England in a snowstorm.
They had argued that morning, and then spent hours drinking together, allegedly involved in a fight outside of the ongoing officers of another official’s party. She pleaded not guilty, and jurors could not reach consensus before the end of the first trial last year, clearing the way for a new trial.

“The defendant has made numerous statements to witnesses, first responders, medical providers, family members and journalists, and has made recorded statements on John O’Keefe’s cell phone,” the prosecutor wrote in a court filing Monday. “These statements include direct impressions and mentality of the defendant within minutes and hours of John O’Keefe’s death, to lawyers who have been attorneys for months and years of murder, sometimes narrating the defendant’s version or impression of the incident.”
After the jury was deadlocked last July, Read waving through multiple public interviews that left magazine writers visiting her former home over the weekend and sitting in multiple local and national television interviews, claiming she was framed for the death of O’Keefe due to her law enforcement colleague. Another discovery document shows some reading elements that Brennan’s team has handed over her defense: which include “Dateline” and “20/20 episodes,” Read’s interview with “The Body in the Snow” on HBO Max and the same interview with parents Really a crime Documentary.
Brennan’s team has more than 41 audio or video clips interview statements, but does not introduce the specific details of each person.

Both sides agreed not to refer to the Boston magazine editor as a witness stand, even if her report may be introduced at trial. This will exempt her from the rules of isolating witnesses before they testify and allow her to continue the trial.

She filed a petition in the U.S. Supreme Court asking her to file two of her three charges and believed that jurors never announced a verdict at the end of her first trial, but they cleared her both second-degree murders and the scene of the accident but fell into a third sentence.

If the highest charge she currently faces is convicted, read the life on her face. The jury selection lasted Monday, and opening remarks could occur once 12 jurors and six substitutes were selected.
