For Read’s second trial, the Commonwealth appointed a special prosecutor, Hank Brennan, a high-power defense attorney, and added New York defense attorney Robert Alessi to the team, including Alan Jackson in Los Angeles and David Yannetti in Boston.

His body was injured and slow to respond due to head trauma and signs of hypothermia.

The defense argued that O’Keeffe was attacked in the House and that his death could be covered up by law enforcement officers within the party.

Jack Lu, a retired Massachusetts judge and Boston College law professor, called the result a “stunning victory in defense,” he said, which would also help read the civil lawsuits O’Keefe’s family has against her.
