Read, 45 years old, charged Second-degree murderkilling and leaving the scene of the fatal accident related to the death of John O’Keefe on January 29, 2022. He was 46 years old and found an evening party in the snow outside another police officer’s house where a group of people went to, to limit drinking at night.
She was initially charged with manslaughter (typical in a fatal bombing case), but authorities later committed murder.

Through her first trial and many media interviews since, she maintained her innocence and claimed that others killed O’Keefe.

Joseph Giacalone, a former New York Police Department sergeant and a professor of criminal justice at Penn State-Leho Valley, told Fox News that he believes prosecutors are hard to be convicted after the first case collapses.
The first trial saw the police cover-up allegations, the arrest of online bloggers accused of intimidating witnesses, the firing of the chief investigator and questions about how O’Keeffe died.

Karen Read’s second murder trial is intended to start with the death of her boyfriend’s policeman:
Prosecutors claimed that Reading returned to him with her Lexus SUV and drove away to leave him dead in the snowstorm.
The autopsy found that his death was caused by blunt trauma of hypothermia in his head and body temperature. O’Keefe had a fractured skull, bleeding from the brain, swollen dark eyes, and a cut in the right arm, but forensic pathologists called it homicide, making the way of death undetermined.
Dr. Daniel WolfAn expert witness testified that damage to the rear end of the Read vehicle was inconsistent with hitting a person’s head or arm. The prosecutor tried to rule out his testimony for a second time.

His name remained on a 150-person witness list Monday and, along with former chief investigator Michael Proctor, announced that he was fired by the Massachusetts Police Department this month.

Read, O’Keefe goes out in Canton, Massachusetts, a Boston suburb that is about 15 miles from the city.
Despite the text messages they introduced in the trial show they had argued, they went out together at Irish pub CF McCarthy around 9pm. At about 11 o’clock, they met friends and acquaintances at the waterfall bar and grille. The bar closes at midnight.

January 29, 2022
At the time Boston policeman Brian Albert invited a group of people to his house on Fairview Road, when the bar ended its service, he attended the party. This may be the last time O’Keefe was alive in public.

Early morning on January 29
- 12:00 am: O’Keefe and Read were invited to Albert’s home and gave instructions. But witnesses have testified that they have never come in.
- 12:37 a.m.: Reading was allegedly a voicemail for O’Keefe, saying, “John, I… hate you.” She was later accused of hitting him at about 24 mph after backing up 60 feet on the vehicle.
- 2:27 a.m.: How long does Jennifer McCabe allegedly died by looking up on Google. She later testified that she searched as Read’s request.
- 6am: Reading Go back to Albert’s home with McCabe and another, and they call 911 from outside, where they find O’Keeffe dead. From Courttvthis is the first trial.
- 6:23 AM: McCabe uses her cell phone to search for information about death for the second time.

On the eve of the jury selection at Read’s second trial, Cannone issued some influential rulings on the case.
She rejected the defense’s attempt to get a former FBI special work permit to prove that the police agreement was not met and limit the scope of the defense, which would be allowed to raise the potential third-party culprits, including Albert and ATF Agent Brian Higgins, both at the Falls Bar and Albert’s home on O’Keefe’s nights.
