The U.S. Navy veteran successfully sued CNN for defamation earlier this year, which doesn’t have much luck with the lawsuit against the company Associated Press and other media.
Judge William Henry of Florida’s 14th Judicial Circuit also presided over the successful CNN trial of Zachary Young and approved two motions Friday to dismiss the defamation lawsuit against the Associated Press and Parker. The judge compared Young’s follow-up lawsuit with the film sequel.
In January, a Florida jury found CNN slander Young By suggesting that he illegally profited while the Biden administration helped people flee Afghanistan on the “black market” during its military evacuation from the country in 2021.
Young received $4 million in lost income and $1 million in personal losses, and the jury ruled that punitive damages for CNN were also necessary. Settlement is reached before a jury awards punitive damages.

Associated Press media reporter David Bauder reported during the CNN trial in a January 2025 article that “Young’s business helped smuggle people from Afghanistan”. However, Henry ruled that the lawsuit was not enough.
“It is said that for certain movies or TV shows, sequels or reboots should not be made. Often, the storyline is forced, the new characters are not developed correctly, there is an inconsistency between the original plot and the sequel, or the author and producer are just lazy and try to cash out with the idea of previous success.

Under applicable law, there is no villain.” “Instead, this is a storyline that attempts to repackage CNN to target other opponents. After screening this work, the court determined that this sequel should not be released because, in fact, this third issue does not work.”
Young, who declined to comment, will appeal the decision regarding the AP.
The Associated Press defended its report throughout the process.
An AP spokesperson previously told Fox News Digital: “The AP’s story is a factual and accurate report about Zachary Young’s jury verdict. We will vigorously defend our report against this frivolous lawsuit.”

Henry threw it away too Young’s suit for Parkerusing the same movie analogy. The “biased” lawsuit was dismissed and cannot be appealed.

After the settlement in January, CNN said it would get “useful courses” from the decision.
