Judge Boasberg cancels planned hearing to review Trump deportations

A federal judge who blocked the Trump administration’s use of the 1798 wartime law immediately expelled Venezuelan nationals, canceling the plan’s Tuesday court hearing, reviewing the case after the Supreme Court handed over the victory to the president.

In a one-minute order issued Tuesday morning, U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg announced that the scheduled Tuesday afternoon hearing will be withdrawn under a Superior Court ruling – which determines, among other things, that “the appropriate venue for such lawsuits is the Southern Texas area,” or where currently holds potential withdrawal.

5-4 The Supreme Court ruled that due process protection is established for immigrants, including the right to appear before being deported.

Boasberg ordered the plaintiffs in the case to file a notice by April 16 to show whether they believe they still have a basis for a motion to make a preliminary injunction in the DC court.
