At the 2025 conference in Denver on Saturday, Ramsey asked the Colorado Legislature to align state laws with the Federal Homicide Victims Family Rights Act, which ensures victims have the right to require a refrigerated review in federally processed investigations that did not find an answer.

The petition was initiated by Lura Vernon, a former aviation engineer on the side of NASA’s aircraft.

“I followed this case from the beginning and had a daughter,” Vernon told Fox News Digital in a statement. “I heard from Crimitch in Memphis that John Ramsey talked about federal homicide victims, and I think that should be the title of every story…I asked myself what I could do. This petition is the answer.”
Ramsey has been a regular fixture for activities for years. In the earlier Crimichen state of Las Vegas, he announced the beginning of a petition asking Colorado Gov. Jared Polis to allow an independent agency to perform modern DNA testing in this case, rather than the Boulder Police Department.

Jonbenet’s mother reported she disappeared on the morning of December 26, 1996 after discovering a long-term ransom note asking for $118,000. John Ramsey found her body later that day in the basement of their house in Boulder.
The autopsy showed that Jonter died of blackmail and a head blow. Boulder City Medical Examiner reported that her skull had an 8 1/2-inch fracture.
Ramsey has long criticized the department for its “arrogance,” “pride,” “self,” and inexperienced experience when his daughter was killed. Recently, he told Fox News Digital that he had signed “hope” after meeting with the department’s new leadership meeting.

“I’m very critical of Boulder Police for Boulder Police,” he said in October 2023, adding that he’s “unfair” to the new brass that “success this chaos” over the years.

“Until I was proven to be wrong, I hope that my impressed new leadership in the police department would be good at using external help to resolve the promise of this case,” he said.
