During Sunday’s show, Oliver made different arguments, questioning the safety and fairness of trans athletes in women’s sports, arguing that the issue is not as black and white as depicted in the picture on the right.
He calls it “absurd” to think that male athletes transition to gain a competitive advantage over biological women.
According to Oliver, his show talks with scientists “in every aspect of the issue,” who agree that there is currently not enough scientific research to test the impact of medical gender transition on athletic performance.
He believes whether trans athletes have any physical advantage over female athletes depends on a specific sport or activity.

He believes: “In general, there is a lot of overlap in the average range of performance between men and women. Basically, no man is stronger or more athletic than every woman, which is sometimes implied here.”
Oliver acknowledged that the issue was “meaningful complexity” but that there should be “balanced competition and inclusion” rather than a “blanket ban” at the primary school level.
He also urged those who disagree with him to admit that there is a religious-based anti-transformer element that fuels the debate.
He scoffed: “One thing I ask you is to recognize the ugliness of how to discuss this issue and the cynical use of trans people by some people to promote trans eradication in order to return from the Bible to what they know, that is a myth.”
