New York Jets Head coach Aaron Glenn announced Thursday that star right-back Alijah Vera-Tucker has tear up his triceps and will be playing this season.
Vera-Tucker, 26, was injured practice Tuesday. He will undergo surgery and face seven months of recovery.
“He’s a big player for us, but we have to keep rolling,” Glenn told reporters Thursday.

Glenn said he is still evaluating who will take Villa Tucker’s place in the starting lineup. Xavier Newman is listed as the team’s backup right-back.
Joe Tippmann has been starting at center for the past two seasons, where he can play in right back and Josh Myers can play. Tippmann and Myers worked at the competition center throughout the camp.
Both were listed as possible starters on the team’s unofficial depth chart this week, and Glenn said they were still competing.
Vera-Tucker has played all positions on the offensive line except for centers since his rookie season.

In 2022, Vera-Tucker was placed at the end of the season IR after seven games due to a torn triceps. In 2023, a torn Achilles tendon limits him to five games.
Last season, he played 15 games and had two ankle games. Vera-Tucker missed 25 games due to a career injury. He has started all 43 games he has appeared in.
Vera-Tucker was named one of the six captains of the Jets for the first time in his career.

Vera-Tucker said of his leadership role, through the team’s website: “I haven’t had the chance to do this throughout my career.”
