In an interview posted Wednesday, actor Jeffrey Wright, who starred in Batman, criticized those who complained about him, portraying a character originally written as White.

Gordon is played by a British actor in the franchise of “Batman” films previously starring Christian Bale Gary Alderman.
Wright told the media that he believes opposition to a black man playing a role is “blind.”
“It was so blind that I found it unaware that the evolution of these films reflected the evolution of society that, to some extent, it made this franchise unreliable on the cultural reality of 1939, when the comics were first published.”
He added: “It’s just the stupidest thing. It’s all the logic.”
He added that the black actor who played Gordon was exactly in line with the diversity of New York City – which is the inspiration for the comic Gotham City.

“How tough, grainy and easy to access my love for Batman is. Ours is Gotham, which is 70s black Gotham – 70s black New York in terms of its cinematic aesthetics.”

The actor also starred in HBO’s “Westworld” series and appeared in the James Bond series with Daniel Craig, describing his connection to the character.
“So things are, I feel like I have these stories like anyone else. Maybe now, because I’m part of it, I have the most skins.”
He added that he doesn’t think the two creators of the original Batman comics would object to his portrayal.
“Bob Kane and Bill Finger were two Jews from the Bronx, imagining heroes and villains in cities that looked like the surrounding cities at the time, but I think they imagined it was open-ended,” he said. “I think the success and lifespan of these stories and characters is due to the openness of their imagination and their creation.”
