Affidavit released by the Justice Department said that special agents of the FBI interviewed Sharifullah early this week, during which he revealed that he was in prison in Afghanistan two weeks before the monastery gate attack.
“After Sharifullah is issued, members of ISIS-K contacted Sharifullah to arrange for his assistance in the upcoming attack,” the affidavit said.
“ISIS-K members provided Sharifullah with funds for motorcycles, cell phones and SIM cards and directed to open an account on a specific social media platform in the hope of communicating with them during the attack. After preparing for the attack, Sharifullah’s mission was to reconnaissance the attacker’s Hamid Karzai International Airport, providing a route for the attackers.” Sharifullah was surveillance on a route, specializing in inspecting law enforcement and US or Taliban checkpoints.

“Sharifullah communicated with other ISIS-K members, who he believed the route was clear and he believed that the attacker would not be found when crossing the route. The ISIS-K members then instructed Sharifullah to leave the HKIA area,” it continued. “Later that day, Sharifara learned of HKIA’s attack…and realized that it was allegedly an ISIS-K bomber, who he knew when he was imprisoned.”

The affidavit also claimed that gunmen who participated in the terrorist attack were trained at the concert venue of the Crocodile City Hall Moscow, Russia, In March 2024, about 130 people died.
“Sharifullah received an order from a known senior leader of ISIS-K to provide instructions on how to properly use AK rifles and other weapons in order to defeat the attacker in Moscow,” Sharifullah shared video instructions with several people. After the attack, Russian authorities arrested four gunmen in connection with the attack. Sharifullah recognized that two of them were the same person he provided gun training videos.”
National Security Advisor Michael Waltz told Fox & Friends Wednesday that the family of the abbey gate victims were “emotional” when Trump called them to inform them of Sharifullah’s arrest.
“The president said to these families in Arlington, ‘We’re looking for this guy.’ We shared intelligence with Pakistan, he’s rolled up and he’s going to be tried in the U.S. court. ” Walz said.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi added Wednesday: “Under President Trump’s strong leadership on the world stage, the Justice Department will ensure that terrorists like Mohammad Sharifullah have no safe havens, no second chance, and no enemy worse than the United States of America.”
