On March 27, Senior Judge James M. Drew ruled in Cerro Gordo County that part of the 2017 search warrant related to Huisentruit’s disappearance, while supporting the affidavit to remain sealed to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

The court noted that the affidavit may only reveal information that the perpetrator would know, such as specific time, project or scenario details found. It added that the unsealed affidavit can help potential suspects “know what to hide.”

Huisentruit’s family posted a statement on Jodi’s Hope Facebook page saying they do not support undoing the file.
“As a family, we have received many inquiries about the legal battle currently in court against the Jody case,” the family said in a statement. “Without going deep into the weeds, we all agree that if the information conference hinders the investigation in any way, the search warrant should remain sealed.
“We don’t post information on information released to the public, especially as the investigation is open and ongoing. We do recognize that there are many different opinions on this – we respect that and ask you to respect our opinions. For the moment, this is our only public comment on this issue.”
