Hue is known for its smart lights, but recently the company has Safety lineup camera. Now, parents say they will release their first video doorbell, with a tone safe and several unique features, hoping it will set it apart from the strong competition of Nest and Amazon’s Ring.
First, the Hue Doorbell comes with a 2k fisheye camera, which is more resolution than some of the Nest and Ring Doorbell products, and may provide more detailed videos. Hue also offers 24-hour video history for free, and you can avoid paying for subscriptions if you want to keep only one day’s clips. Additionally, the camera can be used with Google Home and Samsung Smartthings, as well as Hue’s own app. It won’t be compatible with Apple Home at launch, but will be updated later to work with it. It means that material support will be added sometime this fall.
In addition to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi compatibility, the tone-safe video doorbell comes with Zigbee broadcast. When someone approaches the front door, you can pair it with the tone light, so you can set it to automatically turn on other tone lights (such as inside your foyer or outside your door). However, if you want to complement tone safety by providing acoustic alerts when the doorbell rings, you need to buy a smart ringtone in $60 tones sold separately, as the new doorbell doesn’t work with any third-party bells now.
Hue’s security video doorbell arrived in North America, Europe and the UK in October for $170 (£140). Signify will also release a new 2K wired camera in Europe, an update to the original tone security camera. The model costs 180 euros or 200 euros, and there is a position that there is no news about our availability yet.
