A firefighter in Montgomery County, Texas and his wife are expecting a baby girl, the first woman to be born in his home since 1917.
Michael Sherman and his wife Joacquia Sherman found joyful news about their children on Sunday, which is expected to arrive in March. This will break the 109-year winning streak with only the boys.
“I never thought this day would come – being the first female dad in over a century is humble and exciting,” Mr. Sherman told Cliff of Houston.
The last girl born in the family was Orah Belle Sherman, the great-great-grandson aunt of Mr. Sherman, the firefighter said. Since birth in 1917, each baby has been a boy, including Mekhai, 5-year-old son of Mr. Sherman.
“She was a trailblazer in Atlanta. During the civil rights era, she dealt with civil rights. She met many civil rights leaders and had an impact in Atlanta,” Sherman told Houston’s KTRK-TV.
Ms. Sherman told Cliff: “It’s much bigger than us. Our daughter will always know she is an extraordinary part and we are grateful for this blessing.”
According to Ktrk, the Sherman family is using the Guinness World Records to check whether the 108-year winning streak counts as a world record.
