House clears path for vote honoring Charlie Kirk, denouncing ‘political extremism’

House voted on Wednesday to pass a resolution commemorating the murdered conservative activists Charlie Kirkdefend the debate later this week.

Members voted in favor of the measure and proposed a bill to avoid the shutdown of the government’s joint mechanism by “voting by rules”.

Rule voting is a procedural barrier, often kidnapping unrelated legislation together, and if adopted, House members are allowed to debate each measure individually before their respective votes.

The adoption of the current rules means House members can vote on Kirk’s resolution Thursday or Friday.

Voting for measures to avoid A Government shutdown – A short-term extension of current federal funding levels is expected to be called ongoing solutions or CRs on Friday morning.

Not surprisingly, no Democrats supported the adoption of the rule on Wednesday. Traditionally, rule voting belongs to the party line, and there is little crossing between the two parties, even if the legislation they include is widely supported by the Republican and Democrats.

While Democrats are expected to block Republican-led government funding patches, the resolution commemorating Kirk’s legacy is expected to receive healthy bipartisan support.

The latter measure proposed by CR on Wednesday night will allow government agencies to fund at current levels by November 21 this year – if the House and Senate pass and signed into law by the president Donald Trump.

The bill includes an additional $88 million in additional security funding from Congress, the judiciary and the executive.

In particular, dialogue on promoting the safety of lawmakers has been ongoing, but new urgency has been encountered after Kirk’s death.
