First on Fox: According to department officials, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has canceled hundreds of National Institutes of Health (NIH) research grants (more than $350 million) funding programs related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and gender ideology.
Cuts include cutting projects such as “multi-level and multidimensional structural racism,” “mouse gender affirmative hormone therapy” and “microaggressive”.
There are more than 500 in total Research Grants Related to government-terminated DEI and progressive gender ideology.

“HHS is taking action to terminate more than $350 million in research funding, which is inconsistent with NIH and HHS priorities,” HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon said in a statement. “The terminated research grant is completely wasted on researching things that are not related to U.S. health, including DEI and gender ideology. Make America healthy again, It is important to prioritize research that directly affects American health. ”

A grant cut included nearly $1 million from scientists at the University of Maryland-Baltimore, a research project that “evaluates English multidimensional and multidimensional structural racism in the United States for English and Spanish-speaking populations in the United States.” The project includes the creation of “intersection, multi-level and multi-dimensional structural racism measures” to “eliminate health disparities and discrimination among racial minorities.”
“Emergency public health that collects effective and reliable data on structural racism is needed before effective interventions can be designed to reduce structural racism.”

One of the grants provided nearly $1 million to researchers at Emory University to study how transgender hormone therapy affects skeletal maturation in mice, titled “The effects of microbiome-mediated gender-affirming hormones on mice.” Another project worth about $50,000 is working to understand “how chromosomal makeup and trans hormone administration affects” the mice’s wound healing.
A separate study project that did not use mice received nearly $1 million in “studying possible genomic links with gender identity.”

The Trump administration has also cut grants for recruiting scientists based on race or race. More than $5 million in grants were provided to researchers at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center to help “achieving more racial and racial diversity among our scientific research faculty, including a commitment to hire 18 lifelong track teachers from minority racial and ethnic groups.”

Shortly after the president Donald Trump He directed federal agencies, including HHS, to temporarily freeze the issuance of new federal grants. The action is to ensure that each agency’s funding complies with Trump’s new policies and requirements, including policies around the public sector to get rid of DEI and progressive gender ideology.
The judge then issued an order temporarily blocking the government’s funds from freezing, and shortly thereafter, the Trump administration revoked its memorandum, causing the funds to stop. Shortly thereafter, NIH resumed important meetings and trips related to the agency’s grant review process.
In addition to reviewing NIH’s grant funds to ensure consistency with the president’s policy, Trump also puts a 15% cap on the facilities and administrative costs included in the Research Grant Awards.

Government actions against NIH research have caused widespread backlash. Earlier this month, Trump became the next NIH director, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, during a confirmation hearing, whether he would step in to prevent the president from cutting down on research projects they consider very important, confusing Democrats’ questions.
Bhattacharya would not explicitly say he disagrees with the cuts, or if confirmed, he would step in to stop them. Instead, he said he would “comply with the law” while also investigating the impact of the cuts and ensuring that every NIH researcher is working to improve American health outcomes and have the resources needed to get the job done.

Bhattacharya also lists what he calls a new, decentralized future vision NIH research He said that research topics will be designed to embrace different ideas and transparency while focusing on opportunities to benefit American health outcomes directly. Bhattacharya said he wanted to get rid of the agency’s research portfolio to make other “frivolous” efforts, and he said it did what it did to the health outcomes directly.
