Hamas released two hostages on Saturday in exchange for more than 600 Palestinian prisoners as a vulnerable part Ceasefire agreement with Israel.
The people were identified as Tal Shoham, 40, and Avera Mengistu, 39. The video footage shows the two men looking weak and scared as they are taken to the stage in front of the crowd, with masked gunmen on both sides. They were handed over to the Red Cross and headed to the IDF troops.
Four other hostages – Omer Wenkert, 23; Omer Shem Tov, 22; Hisham al-Sayed, 36; Eliya Cohen, 27, is expected to be released later Saturday, too.
Two of the hostages – Mongestu and Al Seid – are retaliation from civilian Israeli forces since entering Gaza more than a decade ago.
This is because a delicate ceasefire agreement reached a month ago still exists, despite recent reports that the hostage Shiri Bibas’s body did not initially return to Israel as Hamas promised.
