Google is improving its Smart Director, ending production on both of its devices, supporting integration with third-party manufacturers. First, it protects the sunset nest with CO alerts. Existing products will continue to run and receive security updates until their expiration date. They will also be available for purchase while supply continues. Second, it will end production of the Nest X Yale Smart Lock. Like Nest Protect, the remaining inventory is still available for purchase and the device will continue to receive security updates.
Rather than making its own smoke alarm, Google announced that it would adopt a partnership. The company is working with the first alert New smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms This will be integrated with existing Nest Protect devices and can be controlled via the Google Home app. First Alert has not provided an exact release date yet, but says new alerts will be sent to the U.S. and Canada soon and will be priced at $130. It will be available in Google and First Alert stores and can also be sold through retail stores and “professional distribution partners.”
In terms of lockdown, Google will once again work with Yale University. Two people are developing Yale University Smart LockThis works with the Google Home ecosystem and the Nest Brand Lock. As the name implies, it will work on various devices using the Matter Smart Home protocol, and Yale says its battery will last for a year. Its price is $170 “later this summer”.
