Google Today, it will no longer use the country code top-level domain for searching. Instead, all search services will occur on the Google.com URL and local results will be automatically provided. For example, this means that users in the UK will no longer view Google.co.uk in their browser’s address bar. The Google URL comes with domain endings for these specific countries and will now be redirected to the main Google.com address.

With this change, it doesn’t matter whether you go to the local country code URL or go to Google.com; you’ll always see the resulting version of your physical location. Today’s announcement seems to draw conclusions to the original action through sunset.
“It is important to note that while this update will change what people see in the browser’s address bar, it will not affect how searches work, nor how we are obliged under national laws,” Google noted in the announcement.
