Google is replacing Google Assistant with Gemini | TechCrunch

The company announced Friday that Google will use Gemini to replace Google Assistant’s assistant on Android phones.

Google Say in a blog post “In the coming months, it will be upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini. Later this year, the Assistant will no longer be available on most mobile devices or from the app store.

“In addition, we will upgrade tablets, cars and devices connected to our phones, such as headphones and watches, before upgrading to Gemini,” the company added. “We will also bring new experiences powered by Gemini to home devices such as speakers, displays and TVs.”

Google said it will share more details with users in the coming months, until then, the Assistant will continue to run on the above devices.

Google notes that it has been working to improve the Gemini user experience before the Assistant rains, especially for users who rely on various assistant functions. For example, Google has added several highly demanding features on Gemini on Android devices, such as playing music, the ability to support timers, and the option to take actions directly from the user lock screen.

The move to lend Gemini’s assistant is not surprising, especially considering that Google has launched the Pixel 9 smartphone series with Gemini as the default virtual assistant. Google notes that Gemini has more advanced abilities than assistants (at least theoretically) and provides new ways to get help and information through tools like tools.
