Google announced Thursday that it will launch Gemini to all Mac and Windows desktop users in the U.S. in Chrome Limit functionality to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers. The tech giant also announced the future of bringing proxy functionality to Chrome, adding its AI-mode search capabilities to the address bar, launching new Gemini capabilities, using AI to fight AI-generated scams, launching automatic password resets, and more.
US users who set their language to English can now ask Gemini to shed complex information on any web page you read on the Gemini Icon in the upper right corner of their Chrome window. For example, you could open a page with a banana bread recipe and ask Gemini to make the recipe gluten-free.

Gemini can now work through multiple tabs, allowing users to quickly compare and aggregate information from multiple websites. For example, you might be planning to plan flights, hotels, and vacations in multiple tags and organize travel with Gemini. Alternatively, you might be buying a new mattress and want to compare all the different models you view in multiple tabs.
Gemini can quickly retrieve web pages you visited previously, making it easier to return to past browsing sessions without filtering browser history. This means you will be able to ask something like “Which website did I see the walnut table last week?” or “What is my blog back to school shopping?”

Additionally, Google is launching a deeper integration between Chrome and other Google apps such as Calendar, YouTube, and Maps. Google says this will allow users to attend schedule meetings, view location details, etc. without leaving the page. For example, if you want to find an AA specific location in a YouTube video, you can ask Gemini to take you there.
Google notes that AI assistants will be able to accomplish tedious tasks such as booking hairdressing or ordering weekly groceries. Gemini will navigate to the site, add items to the cart, and let you check the final action with the payment options.

Google says the new proxy feature will appear in Chrome in the next few months. It is worth noting that Openai starts operatoran AI proxy that automates tasks earlier this year.

Google also brings AI mode (its advanced search capabilities) directly into the Chrome address bar. Using the AI model, users can ask complex questions about follow-up to study topics in depth. For example, you can type “I’m a side sleeper with occasional lower back pain in the address bar directly in the address bar, but instead let me have a table that compares different mattress types. From there, you can ask follow-up questions and continue searching, such as “How long does memory foam mattress usually last? ”
This update will be available in the U.S. English later this month and will be expanded to more countries and languages in the future.
The address bar can also ask questions about the pages you listed. Chrome can now ask questions based on the page context to start your search in the address bar. Google says users will get a useful overview of AI and choose to use the AI model to ask subsequent questions.

Chrome will also be able to use its Gemini Nano model to detect and prevent scams such as fake virus alerts and fraudulent giveaways, Google says. Google notes that these scams often impersonate trustworthy brands and use generated AI to create compelling phishing attempts.
Google also announced that it is using AI to help users click on supported websites such as Coursera, Spotify, Duolingo, H&M, and more. If Chrome warns you that your password is exposed in a data breach, you can allow it to create and save a new password for you.
