Police reports and surveillance videos are usually not on the top of the to-do list for the bride and groom on the wedding day.
But an opportunistic wedding crasher stood out at a weekend reception with more than one candy bag. The unsolicited guest stole a donation box containing about $100,000 in cash, gift cards and checks for a newlywed couple celebrating in Glendale.
according to Reports from KTLA. Video surveillance video in the lobby shows a man casually walking through the reception while the guest is on the dance floor. Once, he ordered a drink from the bar and called in the lobby.
The man largely ignored it until the bridesmaid saw him grab the donation box and then rushed out of the banquet hall through the side door, KTLA reported.
“The music stopped then and everyone knew it,” bride Nadeen Farahat told Ktla. “It’s an unforgettable and happy day and you have a great time. You don’t think about these things. It’s the last thing anyone thinks of.”
The couple said they paid extra for safety at Renaissance banquets. They estimate that the total amount of money and merchandise in the box is about $80,000 to $100,000. They submitted police reports on the theft.
The groom George Farahat told Ktla that the groom was a great party. “As traditional in our culture, most people use cash or checks as gifts for newlyweds, so there are boxes with all the envelopes, cards, family and friends’ money and friends’ money. ”
The man drove away from the couple believed to be black Mercedes-Benz.
The Glendale Police Department said an investigation is underway.
