Dr Rhiannon McAleer, who co-authored the report, said the findings would challenge popular belief: “Churches in England and Wales are in a state of ultimate decline.”
“Although some traditional denominations continue to face challenges, we see a huge foundation in the expression of most churches, especially in Roman Catholicism and Pentecostalism. Now there are 2 million more people attending the church than six years ago,” she said.
The survey also found that more men than women go to church, with 13% of men saying so overall, and 10% of women overall.
