Google’s Pixel watch 4 With brighter screens and longer battery life, first of all, satellite connectivity and AI-powered health coaches push the limits. Meanwhile, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 Relying on its decade of expertise, stratified advanced metrics such as antioxidant index and vascular loading, while maintaining close integration with the galaxy ecosystem.
As smartwatches (and now smart rings) evolved from a good phone companion to a serious health tool with lifesaving safety features and advanced Vitals tracking, both Google and Samsung are strengthening the game to win permanent spots on their wrists. While we haven’t tested the Pixel Watch 4 in the field, this is how it stacks with the Galaxy Watch 8 – at least on paper.
The 41mm pixel watch 4 (left) and the 45mm pixel watch 4 (right) are polished silver.
Both have identified the basics
Each watch starts at $350 and comes in two sizes. However, the Pixel watch becomes more expensive at the top, and the LTE version costs $70 more than the equivalent Galaxy watch.
Memory, processing power, mobile payments and most core smart features are the best in class. They’re both running the latest Wear OS 6 And Google’s game-changing Gemini voice assistant Built in the door. Although the Pixel Watch 4 has a slight advantage, as it summons the assistant, just lifts your wrist (no “Hey Google” required). But the Galaxy Watch 8 does provide gesture control for other shortcuts.
The Galaxy Watch 8 (pictured) and Pixel Watch 4 have built-in Gemini support.
Design, display, size and durability
The Pixel Watch 4 Sticks have a circular design with minimal signatures. It comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes with a round housing without a visible frame. The screen bends outward with a seamless foam finish, giving it a full-screen look.
In contrast, the Galaxy Watch 8 has a bolder, more split design. Its circular display is located within a wider square base with soft edges and is available for 40mm and 44mm options.
The Galaxy Watch’s display makes the content look clearer, but the Pixel’s full-screen design and larger size make it more usable on screen real estate easier to see from every angle. They all have an always display option. However, one of the advantages of the Galaxy watch is that it is lighter, making it more comfortable, especially at night.
Both come with silver and dark grey finishes, but only Google offers a gold option. Samsung’s elasticity is Galaxy Watch 8 Classica more expensive sibling, with a sleeker design and fan favorite rotary bezel. Each of them has their own proprietary interchangeable belt system with customizable options and standard durability (5ATM, IP68), meaning each should tolerate water, dust and particles without any problems.

Health and safety features
Two watches cover the basics: advanced heart rate, electrocardiogram, blood oxygen and temperature tracking. Samsung further promotes Skin Analysis This tracks carotenoids (a key indicator of nutrition and overall health) and advanced cardiac indicators.
The Pixel Watch 4 may not measure antioxidant levels, but its overall health package is more robust and easier to understand thanks to the Fitbit app integration. It also has a new traceable workout detection feature that allows you to register your workout even if you forget to press Start. On top of that, it debuted an AI coach, which helps decode all your health data and uses it to create a personalized training plan. You can even ask questions like “should I exercise or sleep for the extra hours?” or “How to improve my VO2 Max?”
The Pixel Watch 4 has a new AI coach built on Gemini that can act as a personal health concierge to help you understand all your health data.
Capture: Until October, we won’t be able to test the Pixel 4’s AI coach in the wild, and even then it will start in preview mode first. It also has something to do with Fitbit Premium, which requires a $10 monthly subscription fee, although Pixel Watch 4 owners may receive a free trial. All Samsung’s health features and data are free.
Security is also a highlight of pixels. Both watches include fall detection and SOS alerts, but Google adds water seepage loss alerts, security checking features, and emergency satellite connectivity, and you can breathe to ask for help even if you leave the grid without a phone or cell phone service (LTE model only, free only).
Battery and charging
Google claims the Pixel Watch 4 (depending on size) has a battery life of 30-40 hours, while we did 26-30 hours of real-life battery tests for the Galaxy Watch 8 (40mm) and always shows up above. This makes the pixels small at the edges on the paper.
The obvious win for the Pixel watch is charging speed: Charging is provided at 50% in just 15 minutes on the new charging dock, and it reaches full charge in about an hour. The Galaxy Watch takes about 80 minutes to fill, and hits only 13% after 15 minutes.
Bottom line
If you are already in Samsung’s ecosystem, you may not be forced to switch (unless you really don’t like the new design). But if you are health-centric and open up something new, the October Health Coach launch of the Pixel Watch 4 may make it a person to watch.
