These days, not only search engines and chatbots have undergone AI makeovers. Web browsers want to participate in the revolution.
Opera, the company behind the web browser, unveiled a new update on Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Monday, the browser operator, which provides users with tasks. The company said in a tweet that it is considered the first proxy AI web browser, “a preview of the browser AI agent that does the job for you.”
The company is Blog Posts. “This fits in the broader role of the browser: when online, you can be more powerful when browsing the web online and provide you with tools to make more efficient use of your time.”
Using browser operators, users can explain in natural language what they need to do. For example, they could ask it to buy 10 packs of 12 white tennis socks from Nike and it will handle the deal.
Agent AI is attracting attention
This is part of a bigger effort by tech companies to push Agesic AI, a buzz term that refers to an AI system that can perform complex and multi-step tasks autonomously.
Opera says its AI proxy is different from other proxy browsing experiments because it uses native solutions and eliminates the need to capture browsing sessions in screenshots or videos. The company said the approach prioritizes privacy by saving user data on the device.
The browser is available as a preview version, but it launches in part of its AI-powered program. While this may be the first for the browser, the company continues to launch proxy AI. Openai In-depth research Tools are AI agents that utilize inference-based capabilities to analyze large amounts of information and handle complex tasks. The company said it can complete several hours in a matter of minutes.
Meanwhile, Microsoft introduced it last week magmaThis is a new AI model designed to help robots understand and act smarter. Unlike traditional AI models, Magma processes different types of data simultaneously, which Microsoft calls “making a significant leap to Agentic AI”, where robots can plan and perform tasks on behalf of users.
“Main innovations in browsers”
Agentic AI is widely seen as the next step in generating AI, especially when search engines such as Google start integrating large language models into their processes, said Reece Hayden, an analyst at tech intelligence firm ABI Research. But he believes that the integration of proxy AI browsers like Opera is a factor that will revolutionize the user experience and drive traction in the long run.
“This will be seen as a major innovation in the browser as consumers will be able to book holidays autonomously or execute other use cases,” Hayden said. “It is important that it provides new use cases for smartphones to demonstrate that device AI can support transportation growth.”
He noted that while Haydn said he hopes more search engines and browsers can test similar options, there are still “huge risks” around data privacy, accuracy and control. “Thinking that all players need to be careful [potential for] Reputation damage. ” he said.
