Nintendo held Nintendo Switch 2 Direct On April 2, the company announced that its latest console will be released June 5 The price in the United States is $450. It also reveals that a few Nintendo Switch games will receive upgraded versions that have been named Nintendo Switch 2 versionand it can cost up to $80.
Switch 2 is backward compatible so you can play your current switch game – though there are some Compatibility issues (PDF). Nintendo says the Switch 2 Edition games will be different from your original Switch games as they may provide improved graphics, unique ways to play games with the Switch 2 hardware, and more.
Here are all Nintendo announced games that will receive Switch version 2:
- Super Mario Party Jamboree
- The Legend of Zelda: Breathing in the Wild
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land
- Metroid Prime 4 surpasses
- Pokemon Legend: ZA
- Sid Meier’s Civilization 7
Nintendo said the Switch 2 version of these games will be available in digital and physical copies. You can view Switch 2 version of certain games in retailers Target and WalmartSwitch 2 versions of these games will cost you up to $80.
If you already have a switch version of one of these games (such as The Wild), you can purchase an upgrade package to play the Switch 2 Edition version of the game. In an interview IGNBill Trinen, vice president of product and player experience at Nintendo in the United States, said some upgrade packages cost $10.
“For those who have purchased the Kingdom or the Wild Breathing Tears, these upgrade packages cost $9.99,” Trinin told IGN. “If you happen to be a member of the Nintendo Switch Online+ expansion package, both Zelda upgrade packages are included in that member.”
However, it is not clear how the upgrade package will be used with the physical versions of these Switch games.
As an example of new features available, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis said the game’s Switch 2 Edition will support mouse control for new consoles – which makes sense, traditionally the Civilization series is a PC strategy game. Firaxis doesn’t say how much upgrade you go to Switch 2 Edition.
Nintendo also announced some upcoming consoles for new games, including Mario Karting WorldKirby Aviation Rider and Donkey Kong Bananza. Nintendo also announced that some third-party games will be entering Switch 2, such as Elden Ring, Split Fiction, Borderlands 4 and Madden.
