Payday-Style High-Stakes Heists Are Back in Den of Wolves

At this year’s game developer conference in San Francisco, I sat down for the first hands-on media preview of the upcoming 4 players collaborating on extracting the shooter. The team, led by the creative idea behind Payday Nos. 1 and 2, was developed by 10 Chambers (made GTFO), and is back in another heist game. But the wolf’s nest is different by introducing larger brain components into the areas and obstacles you have to face.

The new game is scheduled for the near future of Midway City, a large, company-controlled metropolis on an island in the Pacific Ocean. You play the role of hiring a criminal when you break into locations to steal money, loot, and information. This is similar to payday games, but focuses more on futuristic technology and Scifi concepts.

Starting with the preparation task, our preview session is divided into three parts. These are shorter, about 15 minutes long, and in quests in Wolf Pack, you can collect resources and tools to prepare for a larger robbery. Our demo was a four-person mission, working with two on the Dev team and working with another journalist. Our mission is to sneak into the high security department of the building in order to get into the vault at the back and steal various targets.

We started to take a stealth approach, crouching and moving slowly, while using melee weapons and various patrol enemies’ shooting down. In the nearly wolf nest, many worlds and their aesthetics are concentrated in many worlds. This is worth noting when several patrols include investigation departments that will freeze and disperse the periphery of tentacle-like from the helmet. We were told that if these bounced antennae were in contact with our characters, we would be discovered. This is a cool visual that adds more complex features to the task.

Use deployable shields in a firefight.

After several rounds of sneaky enemies, we accidentally discovered it and had to leave loudly. This gives us the opportunity to use some of the gadgets we have equipped before the task. Specifically, I could send out a small turret that could shoot anyone’s sight – it’s a great tool whenever we find ourselves under attack in both directions. One of my teammates brought out a deployable shield that will stop shooting – also very useful. The combination of tools and guns is key as we sail towards the behemoth behind us in the waves of our enemies.

We have a blueprint for the plan

After extracting the item, we started the second part of the preview activity, which involved us standing up from the computer running the demo and walking to the physical table. In a fun interaction, the game spreads into real life, and a developer on my team spreads us a blueprint for the next task. I was told that we needed to break into eight different vaults and look for two key cards that could open the final main library, and in addition, we also needed to blow open the large window behind as an escape route. Obviously, this is not part of the game when it ships, but it is a fun and silly benefit to the preview of the game I continue to do and worth sharing.

Large Show: How the robber falls in the wolf’s nest

The main part of the demo is the main task – real-time heist – it takes about 30-60 minutes depending on your ability to play and how much you want to steal. It starts with us handing the briefcase to an unaware enemy, which we fill with assassination robots. Once the hell broke, we started to rotate the huge room on three floors clockwise (as I decided earlier when I planned to use the Blueprint).

Platform by diving

Our team was divided into two pairs, one drilled into a vault, and the second pair worked in the next pair. When aid is needed or training is stuck, we will jump to each other, defend and attack the defenders coming in. After some time searching for the key card, we were finally able to open the main safe, which houses the most unique gaming feature of Wolf Nest: Divs. Inside the vault, the CEO’s body is hung in the animation, their minds are related to the internet, and we are hijacked in the launch style to introduce their minds to think our boss is extracting information.

CEOs we must study in depth

In terms of gameplay, this means we have to fight against enemy waves and move around the map to activate specific tools. After the dive started, we twisted it into a more sci-fi environment and twisted it in a short platform section where we had to run in a cyberspace where gravity coexisted. Jumping from the walls and ceilings, crossing a huge gap. We are timed, but as long as one of four teammates, we will succeed.

Finishing it brings us back to the firefight. Our final goal is to fight the boss of the stage and steal huge loot from danger. But every five to ten minutes or so, our characters turn back to cyberspace and new platform challenges must be undertaken. This chaotic gunfight and a timed parkour race are very fun and unique. Eventually, when the heat became too much, we had to open the window and rescue it. My team collected 24 of the 25 stolen items in the robbery – a great traction for someone who just picked up the game.

Wolf’s Dan makes an exciting impression, and even makes me want to go back and check out GTFO, a previous game from the studio, which is incredible. The developers also told me that their new games will become easier to be more engaging to a larger audience. There is currently no specific release date, but there are 10 Chambers planning to release the wolf pack on Steam sometime this year.
