Generation Z hopes the switch will bring better gaming and performance

Nearly a quarter (23%) of Gen Z respondents were looking forward to new games from the Nintendo franchise, while 30% were looking forward to improved technology such as larger screens and better graphics. Most importantly, the main factor in deciding whether to buy a conversion is the affordable price (31%). A large part of CNET’s editors, he wrote about gaming devices and so on, wasn’t shocked by that.

“It sounds like these results are certainly beneficial to the existence of the Switch 2,” Stan said.

A closer look at the factors that Z Gen Genaers and American gaming adults have taken into consideration overall when deciding to upgrade to Switch 2 and experts’ perceptions of the data.

The first is the console price

The Nintendo isn’t the most expensive product on the market compared to other consoles, making it a budget-friendly gaming option, and STEIN predicts that the Switchin 2 will cost less — about $400, if Gen Gen Gen probably doesn’t want to spend too much on the console. By comparison, when the first switch was released, the price was $300.

“Gen Z knows the technological landscape and doesn’t want to give a lot,” Stan said. “Switch 2 can play a role in the middle position.”

Stein also noted that if Gen Zers like the usual Nintendo games, they might buy a newer Switch model. However, it may depend on how much support a big-name publisher provides for popular games, which may make new consoles worthy of offering them a list price.

This is also related to the performance and unique functions of the switch.

As one of the youngest games, Gen Z hopes Nintendo will deliver higher resolution graphics with the upcoming release, which can satisfy Gen Z expectations – as we’ve seen in PlayStation and Xbox. Since this generation was much younger when it first released the Nintendo Switch, Stein said this was the first time they could use the graphics and features of the Nintendo series.

Apart from graphics, Z Gen is also working on what makes the Switch stand out.

For example, Nintendo mocked the possibility of using a switch as a mouse. This may not be used to make the purchase purpose, but Gen Z is looking for something different and will make the purchase worth it.

They spend more on the game, but intentionally

Even if the younger generation is weighing the price of the console, don’t forget it. Consider Switch 2: 1 factor in game availability. “Gen Z chooses to focus on a few games rather than a wider range of games with its disposable income [array] Games, especially if their social interaction is based on one or two games,” Lumb said.

Lumb also said that it is possible that Gen Z will wait initially to see if there are more games to justify the Switch 2’s price, especially since they already have games that will always be socially played with friends.

However, this generation is spending on subscriptions and games.

Generation Z spends an average of $56 per month on subscriptions and/or new games, while our entire game adults spend an average of $35 per month. For the youngest generation surveyed, that’s an extra $252 a year.

In addition to purchasing New Game And pay for subscription fees, the monthly amount of this month may be spent on in-game games, and Z Gen Gamers may only be purchased once a year. However, they can spend monthly customizations, upgrades, and other in-game purchases. For example, consider in-game cosmetics and items that you can purchase within two weeks.

Why Switch 2 gains appeal for American gamers

More than half of American adults in the game want to buy the Nintendo Switch 2. The biggest problem is the reason.

For loyal Switch gamers, the format and gameplay are fun, and gamers are ready for the next iteration, Lumb said.

“I think it’s just people are happy to see the next version, but I also think it’s exciting, not guaranteeing that people will buy it,” Lumb said. For us adults, that’s why they convince them to buy new switches.

Our editors and gamers hope for big switching moments

Lumb and Stein said we shouldn’t make any major changes to the Switch 2. Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct We’ll tell us more, here are some possibilities that gamers and our experts are looking forward to.

Better performance to attract popular games

Apart from the price of the console, the two biggest factors in buying a switch are improved technology and gaming availability. But to have both, big-name popular games need better performance to deliver more products than Nintendo’s usual titles.

Nintendo isn’t focusing on performance like Xbox and PlayStation – the performance of Xbox and PlayStation is similar to that of a personal computer, Lumb said. Instead, it focuses on providing unique games.

“Nintendo really really takes fashion in the latest and greatest situations, which is fun. But the original switch has suffered a loss in porting high-end games,” Lumb said. “So hopefully we’ll see performance improvements at least in order to get a decent amount in these leading games.”

New Nintendo Subscription Program

Currently, Nintendo Online offers Nintendo Switch, allowing cloud data storage, online games and Nintendo game libraries. Our editors are eager to see if Nintendo’s big announcement includes changes to existing subscriptions to provide gamers with more information.

Stein wonders if Nintendo will make an interesting subscription to the Switch 2, and if all switch owners can offer special offers. For example, it is possible to subscribe to the tier, which includes switch games and a more monthly number of special products. Consider subscribing to play the new Mario Kart for free.

But it all depends on Nintendo’s claim on Switch 2 and whether it plans to change with any subscriptions to the new version. The biggest problem is, the offer only applies to Switch 2 or all Switch users?

Special features and upgraded technologies

So far, the Switch 2 specs have rumored to include an 8-inch LCD screen, an octa-core ARM Cortex A78C CPU and a 5-watt draw for battery life.

Sometimes, Nintendo has a way to impress us technically, which can be fun for upcoming console releases. “It’s fun because we always write Nintendo as not about graphics or must be about technology, but they do have a moment of time that makes them push the envelope of technology,” Stein said.

There are also opportunities for artificial intelligence upgrades and NVIDIA processors. However, one of Stein’s promising features is Switch 2 backward compatibility. This means your older switch game will be compatible with later switch models and Switch 2.

“I totally hope Nintendo bets in a clever way so that people who don’t want to invest now aren’t completely excluded,” Stan said.

Stan said it would be welcome news for loyal Nintendo customers who might consider buying new models later. When they did, they already had a game library because Switch 2 is backward compatible.

Methodology

Unless otherwise stated, all numbers are from YouGov PLC. The total sample size was 2,369 adults, of which 1,290 were gamers. A field survey was conducted between March 19 and 25, 2025. The survey was conducted online. These numbers have been weighted and represent all American adults (18 years and older).
