When I first heard about the multiplayer spinoff with X-like action game controls, I hope it would fight against each other with all the psychological power and weird weapons, which made the original game a riot. But FBC Firebreak is the next game for Remedy Entertainment, who struggled to tilt the workplace as players boldly guide the average agent to beat the intruders out of the office.
Of course, these offices belong to the Federal Control Bureau, a mysterious participant in government agencies explored in control. In a one-time digital preview, the remedy gives the media an early look at how its next game will play when it is released in the summer of 2025.
FBC Firebreak has three-person squads that venture into various settings in the oldest houses, as FBC’s large buildings are known to be nested with different settings, from offices lined with shaggy carpets to corridors filled with pipes to wet caves. Most areas I see look straight out of control, because the players are not changing as they roam the halls with new FBC director Jesse Faden.
Unfortunately, the hissing – outsourcing the invaders, taking over the FBC personnel and turning it into a twisted monster – still occupying the oldest house six years after the control incident. Although FBC staff adhere to the safe field, the supply is low. With a variety of weapons and tools, players can adapt to missions and Sally perform missions to restore the office.
The first multiplayer game from Remedy has some guiding principles – most notably, the upcoming addition will be available to all players, not on tickets behind paid DLC. The studio also refused to include daily tasks and monthly training engagement treadmills – “We don’t want to give anyone a second job,” FBC Firebreak Game Game Director Mike Kayatta said in a briefing.
Of course, the remedy hopes to combine the symbolism of its multiplayer with surrealism. But if the split of control is 70% horror and 30% surrealism, then the ratio of Firebreak FBC to both is inverted. The players played the role of FBC’s middle managers, engineers, secretary and security personnel in the struggle, rather than the super-capable Faden tossing, but instead played the role of FBC’s middle managers, engineers, secretary and security personnel in order to free its shady government office.
Kayatta said FBC Firebreak is a world that controls the world from another perspective, and it was inspired by works like Annihilation, True Detective and Show Silo, especially blue-collar engineers need to fix generators or plots where everyone will die. But, surprisingly, another big inspiration was Mike Rowe’s work record TV series Dirty Job.
“In development, we watched a weird old show called Dirty Jobs,” Kayatta said. “It’s weird to have so many real-life things. What do you want to deal with, what will make you hate? What tools do you need?”
Fighting with government drones
Firebreak’s mission is called work, sending players into a specific environment with challenges and bosses – the environment called Paper Chase shown in the trailer is set in the aforementioned Shag-Carpetecties of the FBC administration. It was filled with hissing, appropriately, a golem made of a sticky smell. The Final Level Boss is a huge version, which is waving the torso and arms among the players, just as Spider-Man’s enemies are made of the post office.
Fire-proof shooting is like a kind of extractive shooter. At the beginning of the work, it is difficult for players to choose their own running situation, and higher risks bring higher rewards. Difficulty comes in two flavors: increasing the threat level will make the hissing fight back harder, while clearing levels will add more areas to navigate and potentially add damaged items – a suspicious name similar to a power object that can appear randomly in control.
But the players will not be unarmed. Before each task, they list the burden of the class roles and equipment they will be working for (players can switch between checkpoints if they don’t like the current suite). These include guns (shot guns, revolvers, submachine guns, etc.), grenades and special tools such as Splash Kit soaking environment, jump kits to ZAP FOES, and more.
These temporary techniques can combine their effects—for example, splashing enemies with water to produce greater effects—which encourages teamwork. Of course, you able Solo or play with another friend, but the game was adjusted to a threesome team, joining Destiny 2 and the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign In the Co-op Trio game (remedy says four players just couldn’t balance).
Our Hander-Off Proview includes a long view of the paper chase work, and despite a lot of gunfights, there are plenty of teamwork and tactical matches – you are not like a soldier, more like an emergency responder, stressed by Thomas Puha, director of remedial entertainment communications. The aforementioned post go can leave sharp notes that can clog the helmet and block your view, but teammates can splash them out, or you can find a shower station to hose yourself. And, we see some interesting tools with practical and weird iconic remedies, such as the Pig Bank with melee weapons, which when slammed the enemy, creates a bunch of coins that makes them suck in.
Players can also hunt down currency, spend between jobs to upgrade equipment and expand the play style, and buy cosmetics (helmets, armor, etc.). They can also earn and equip the perks, with a variety of effects, including returning bullets on missed shots, switching weapons faster, reloading faster, or other advantages. If the player is equipped with two benefits of the same type, the effect stack; equip three expands the benefits to other players on the team.
In FBC Firebreak, players will fight against Hiss Extraplanar invading enemies for the first time in the game control of Remedy Entertainment 2019.
How FBC Firebreak adapts to relief – and separate
Remedies begin to make fun traits games with 2001’s Max Payne, a third-person shooter with Cop Noir’s 3rd person shooter. Alan Wake in 2010 is an action shooter whose narrative action rate tends toward the darkness of creativity, cementing the studio’s reputation for a compelling gaming reputation that isn’t afraid of weirdness, which stretched to Quantum Break in 2016 and controlled in 2019, both of which make for a bigger connection between the Remedy Enterion entertainment world. Ultimately, Alan Wake 2 consolidated it all in 2023, as the FBC itself stands out in the game plot.
This is where FBC Firebreak opens, but that’s a different game than its predecessor: Players will quickly develop through levels and focus on helping teammates instead of taking the time to weave the structure of the game’s world with detailed remedies.
“This is not a single player game where you can walk along a special path and experience the world from certain angles, explore, drink yourself,” said Julius Fondem, a community manager. The remedy removes the barriers between starting the game and shooting hissing with your friends, throwing away the obstacles between forcing tutorials and cutscenes to get players to act faster and keep it at the center of things.
FBC FireBreak’s multiplayer focus has also forced developers to get rid of the big moments of hand-crafting that made previous games stand out, from Control’s Ashtray Maze to Alan Wake 2’s We Sing Musical Secence. But these are not easy to adapt to multiplayer: If you play the same paper chase work over and over in FBC Firebreak, do you really want to see this handmade moment 700 times? Kayatta asked. Instead, they want players to build their own emerging, completely unplanned situations, and multiplayer is known for it. “That’s why we’re trying to rely so much on building a playground that can produce these moments for us,” Kayata said.
Developers declined to share exactly how FBC Firebreak will be linked to the bigger remedy, and Alan Wake 2 brings it together in a clear way, and they reiterate that it will be its own game that won’t develop Faden’s story – players will wait for confirmation and upcoming controls 2. Nor will fans feel the need to play the multiplayer champion to prepare for a full sequel – FBC Firebreak is an independent game and tells its own story, which has nothing to do with extradition horror compared to the horror of the office bureaucracy.
