The main witness of missing University of Pittsburgh Student Sudiksha Konanki has been supported by the community, according to a statement issued by family friends on Sunday night.
Konanki, a 20-year-old Virginia resident, was last seen walking on the beach outside the Riu Republic Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in the early hours of March 6, according to authorities.
In the case, Joshua Riibe, 22, of Iowa, was questioned by authorities from various agencies in the case, who were questioned while seeking answers in the disappearance of Konanki. He was the last person to meet with Conna when they lived in the resort during spring break with friends.
Friends from the Riibe family issued a statement confirming their support for college students, who were described as “key elements” Missing persons investigation. He has not been appointed as a suspect and has not been charged with any crimes.

“The Rock Rapids Community stands behind and supports Joshua Riber and his family,” a statement released by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on behalf of friends of the Riibe family. “The Riibe family moved to town in 2015 and has been active in a variety of schools, community events and organizations. They are well known.”
“Josh has a firm dedication to his faith and his true kindness to others,” the statement continued. “He embodies the values of compassion, respect and integrity that are crucial to our church and our community.”

Friends who wrote the statement urged the public to respect the Riibe family’s privacy “in this difficult time of uncertainty.”
“While Josh focuses on helping find Sudiksha Konanki’s efforts, his family at home supports loved ones in the Dominican Republic. Please help us respect these priorities,” the statement concluded.
