Most Americans think they pay too much taxes – rich people don’t have enough money to pay.
As the tax day approaches, the latest Fox News survey found that 59% of voters believe they are paying too high, down from last year’s record 64%. About 38% think the money they pay is right, just one Smith says is too low (2%).

Traditionally, voters thought their taxes were too expensive, with the minimum tax recorded in the Fox News survey at 51% when the question was first asked in April 2004 (44% believed the tax was correct at the time, recorded).
Participants fully believe that their taxes are too high: Republicans (65% too high), independents (61%) and Democrats (51%). The decline for those who think they are giving too much is mainly from Republicans (11 points since March 2024) and independents (-11).
At the same time, more and more voters believe that the rich are not paid enough. When asked about the biggest distress of paying federal income tax, 45% said it was a wealthy unpaid fair share, up from 34% in 2019 and 28% in 2014.

Since 2014, Democrats believe the wealthy don’t pay enough less than 30 points, while the same number among independents has increased by 14 points, and Republicans have increased by 5 points among Republicans.

The biggest pain for Republicans to suffer taxes is Government expenditure (45%), while Democrats (73%) and independents (44%) are even more troubled by the lack of giving to the rich.
Among all income groups, the views were consistent between higher-income families and lower-income families, with more voters saying Rich people Inadequate payments, their taxes are too high.
The FOX News Survey was conducted on March 14-17, 2025 under the guidance of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research, and included interviews with a sample of 994 registered voters randomly selected from national voter documents. Respondents had a conversation with the on-site interviewer (123) and mobile phone (648) after receiving the text (123) or completed the survey online (223). The sampling error of the results based on the complete sample is ±3 percentage points. The sampling errors related to the results between subgroups are high. In addition to sampling errors, the wording and order of the problem also affects the results. Weights are often applied to age, race, education, and region variables to ensure that respondents’ demographics represent the registered voter population. Sources of developing weight goals include U.S. Community Survey, Fox News voter analysis, and voter file data.
