Former U.S. Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah) died Sunday at the age of 49, according to her family.
Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants and the first black Republican woman to be elected to Congress, was surrounded by his family “peacefully.”
Love’s family said in a statement posted on X: “With a grateful heart, there is a profound impact Mia has on our lives and we hope you know she passed away peacefully today.

The family continued, “In the avalanche of celebrating her life and memories of happiness, Mia quietly slipped into the band of death, just like her words and vision, but soared into heaven.” “We thank many good wishes, prayers and condolences. We will spend some time as a family and will provide information about funeral services and public celebrations of her life in the coming days.”

Love has been receiving treatment for brain cancer, but her daughter said earlier this month that the former congresswoman’s cancer no longer responded to it.
