“We are honored to have Gretchen Whitmer from Michigan, Michigan,” Trump said in a news conference Wednesday.
Given that she is two-term governor of the swing state, Whitmer is widely regarded as a future presidential candidate.
Whitmer then told reporters that she thought she was going to enter the Oval Office for a one-on-one meeting with the president and was surprised by the press conference.
